Phoenix Kyaw

Instructor

Phoenix's journey with Arakan began at the age of two, guided by his father, Chief Instructor Robert Kyaw. With over 16 years of consistent training, Arakan has taught Phoenix invaluable skills beyond self-defence, such as respect, discipline, and motivation. Aside from developing awareness, de-escalation skills, and combat proficiency, Arakan has taught Phoenix foundational life principles, which he now carries with him every day. Despite outstanding academic achievements and numerous high-level universities offers, Phoenix chose to pursue his true passion of teaching Arakan after graduating from high school in 2023.

Phoenix spends his free time participating in physical activities, drawing on his experience as an elite swimmer and runner to enjoy extreme sports such as mountain biking. He is committed to self-improvement and spends time in the gym and outdoors, honing his physical and mental abilities. With a 12-year journey in playing guitar, Phoenix values consistency and resilience, understanding the importance of perseverance in mastering any skill.

Phoenix is honoured to be Arakan's youngest instructor ever. Phoenix displays positivity and enthusiasm in his role as a teacher, sharing his passion for Arakan Martial Art. In his lessons, he creates a supportive environment that encourages students to learn quickly and practically while also forming meaningful friendships. Phoenix is dedicated to making a difference and believes in empowering people, especially during difficult times. His family's support has helped shape him into the best version of himself, and he hopes to honour his Burmese heritage by passing down his profound knowledge through generations.

Student Testimonials

Our 2 boys joined Arakan earlier in the year to learn self defence skills as they were unfortunately the targets of some bullies at school. From day one, they have absolutely loved Arakan! We've had the pleasure of training with different instructors, however, they continue to train with Phoenix each week. Phoenix is fantastic. He is committed to the helping the boys develop their skills, and we have noticed a big difference in their confidence, commitment, and fitness. Being kids, they don't always turn up ready to roll, but Phoenix is very adaptable and gets their attention by creating a fun &  safe space to learn in. The best part, no more bullies. 5 stars all the way for Phoenix and the amazing people at Arakan Martial Art.

Phoenix is currently teaching and helping both my daughter Zoe and I during our Arakan Journey. He is a fantastic and enthusiastic instructor who is very patient and focused when teaching. He always pushes us to do our best and demonstrates his passion, which makes us train harder and enjoy lessons more. He is easy going but also a hard task master which is a great balance which makes each lesson exciting not knowing what new challenges await.

"I have been training with Corey now for over 4 years and initially i started training with him to get some basic fitness. I had my first complimentary lesson with Corey and was show the backfist and how to generate more power to that blow with some "technique". It was amazing to realise the difference in the power of the blow. Corey has since trained me every week since that time and (has patiently) explained everything concisely (many times) to assist my growth with Arakan Martial Art. It was apparent from the outset that Corey was passionate and considerate but his understanding of Arakan enabled him to teach the art at a very understandable level right through to being enabled to grade my first belt.
I now train with Corey to gain greater understanding of the next belt requirements but due to the exposure to Coreys passion and understanding of Arakan, is now not just about grading but more about a journey of learning that is continuous. The health benefits have been great for me personally and I cannot thank Corey enough for what he has helped me to achieve. I highly recommend him as an Arakan Instructor and have entrusted him to start training with my 14 year old son. Again, I see Corey gently working away with him and encouraging him. The benefits of having some knowledge, of what he is being Instructed, only brings us closer and gives us a better bond. Exponentially, my eldest son trains and my youngest daughter has trained for 4 years (this month, Jan 2020) as well, so it really has become a family affair."
